How to reach Ravenna

Ravenna is about 75 km from Bologna, 35 km from Forlì, and 50 km from Rimini.

air By air

The closest international airports serving Ravenna are Bologna (Aeroporto "Guglielmo Marconi" di Bologna; BLQ), Forlì (Aeroporto di Forlì "Luigi Ridolfi"; FRL), Rimini (Aeroporto Internazionale "Federico Fellini"; RMI) and Venice (Aeroporto "Marco Polo" di Venezia; VCE). These airports are linked to the main Italian and international cities both through regular airlines and charter flights. To reach Ravenna, you can then rent a car or take a train (for additional information see the sections below). Expect trips lasting around 2 h (from Venice), between 1 to 1.5 h (from Bologna), or less than an hour (from Forlì or Rimini).

If you fly into Bologna, be aware that there is a regular shuttle service between the airport and Bologna central railway station. The trip takes approx. 20 min. More information is available here (only in Italian) or ask at the airport.

train By train

Timetables of trains can be found at the Ferrovie dello Stato website. Ravenna is well served by trains and has the added benefit of having its railway station only about 300 m from the old pedestrian-only historical centre, where both the congress venue and a number of the support hotels are located. If planning to arrive by train, please be aware that most of the important parts of the city can be easily reached on foot.

car By car

Ravenna can be reach either via the motorway A14 or other main roads. If taking the motorway from the North, take the exit at Imola and follow the direction to Ravenna; if arriving from the South, take the exit at Cesena Nord and follow the directions to Ravenna. Other useful main roads include the SS67 (Tosco-Romagnola), if coming from Forlì; the SS309 (Romea), if travelling from Venice avoiding the motorway; and the E45 that, from Rome, crosses the peninsula.

To plan your car trip, we advise one of the many online services freely available such as, for example:

Information about current traffic conditions throughout the Italian motorway network can be found at the Autostrade per l'Italia website.
